The DePaul Experience: Values-based student development

The Division of Student Affairs

Exceptional learning opportunities in a uique environment
The "DePaul Experience" is a distinctive version of a holistic education. By combining experiential learning and a Vincentian service orientation with Chicago's dynamic urban environment, the university seeks to graduate well-rounded, skilled individuals with leadership skills, a refined world view and a sense of social responsibility.

The "DePaul Experience" requires that our students have extrordinary growth and learning opportunities outside the classroom as well as within it. The Division of Student Affairs delivers on that promise through programs and services that inspire students to explore their personal identities, their faith and values, and their role in a multicultutral world.

Our programs are developed and conducted in conjunction with the DePaul community and guided by its mission and Catholic-Vincentian-Urban nature. In particular, we partner with Academic Affairs and other areas of the university to engage students in diversity, social justice and community service initiatives. We pursue four strategic initiatives:

Advocacy: Providing a comprehensive support system for advising, intervention and service to assist students in achieving their academic and personal goals.

Diversity: Enhancing the university's commitment to multiculturalism and combating intolerance and prejudice, simultaneously contributing to the retention and graduation of minority students.

Student Development: Supporting students' intellectual, spiritual, emotional and physical growth through a holistic learning environment.

Student Service: Providing services and resources that maximize student success and minimize potential impediments.

Together, these elements make the Division of Student Affairs a key contributor to the experiential learning environment that comprises the "DePaul Experience."
